SHORT BIO
When I was a kid, we moved around the Midwest a lot. We spent time in Kentucky, Indiana, Arkansas, and Missouri before settling down in the Hoosier state. Despite all of our temporary living arrangements, I took solace in those Arkansas summers. My mom would be cooking blackberry jam and I'd be drawing Winnie the Pooh inside some coloring book. The countless hours spent scribbling, smudging, and coloring never really stopped. I'd like to think that it helped steer the overall direction of my work, but it wasn't long until I had moved on to recreating comic book art back in Indiana. With only a few minor artistic victories in elementary school, junior high, and high school, I had basically given up pursuing my art as a career. A few years later, at some dead end retail job, a coworker encouraged me to enroll at a local college. Long story short, I earned my Bachelors of Science in Studio Art from the University of Southern Indiana in 2004 as a non-traditional student. Since then, my work has been seen in Juxtapoz and Hi Fructose magazines as well as various art venues in Chicago, New York, Indiana, Kentucky, Wisconsin, and most recently the country of Wales. Collectors from all over the world have purchased my work and it always blows me away. Currently, I live and work in Evansville, Indiana with my girlfriend Jeannie along with our two cats Roosevelt and Lincoln.

ARTIST STATEMENT
“In order to correctly define art, it is necessary, first of all, to cease to consider art as a means to pleasure and to consider it as one of the conditions of human life”.

Tolstoy's philosophy on art has always resonated with me despite never reading any of his books. His words help explain the less cliché aspects of being an artist without complicating things. Art is just a part of who we are; it’s part of human life. Everyone has a sense of art in the same way we have a sense of humor. We decide what's interesting or amusing to us. That sense is builds a brief connection between the artist and the viewer. Adding onto those connections, I try to mimic the aesthetics of the same illustrative art that I loved as a kid. Using traditional mediums and materials along with non-traditional elements (skateboards, paint can lids, salvaged wood, cardboard, plastic novelty eyes, spray paint cans, vintage blue prints, old receipts, vinyl records, scrap metal, etc), I try to make sense out what's not making sense. Through experimentation, repetition, and consistent compositions found throughout my life's work, I bridge the gap between me and my audience more and more, forming a story with materials that compliment and/or contrasts my imagery. I’m influenced mostly by art and artists from the last 100 years in trying to create my own personal style and approach while exploring cartoons, comic books, craft art, junk art, assemblage, graffiti, and collage.
